BREAKING NEWS!
Some good news for Sports Therapists and Remedial Therapists!
The CNHC, have agreed to regulate the professions, and the register will open to suitably qualified sports therapists and remedial therapists in January 2010.
There has been lots of hard work undertaken by STO, ISRM and FHT in the move to take both professions forward.
A new governing body in Sports Therapy & Remedial Therapy is also due to be announced. The SRTC (Sports & Remedial Therapy Council) will work with the specific remit of Sports Therapy & Remedial Therapy, and will be forging new links with professional sports bodies and government agencies, to ensure that the professions are fully fully accepted as allied health professionals.
The SRTC will comprise of all Professional Associations involved in Sports Therapy & Remedial Therapy.
The SRTC supports the introduction of statutory regulation of sports therapists and remedial therapists to enable qualified therapists to have protection of title and to protect the public from incompetent and dishonest practitioners. However, until this is implemented the SRTC recognises the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) as the official voluntary regulator of sports therapists and remedial therapists.
In turn, the Department of Health have issued a statement reading "the CNHC is the only voluntary regulator for complementary healthcare that is endorsed by the Department of Health and which has official government backing”.
It really is good news for both sports therapists and remedial therapists, and we can now concentrate on ensuring we are represented at both the Olympic Games in London and the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
